Qualifications and Resume

I am a special education teacher.  Because I have not been teaching in a classroom for a number of years, I do not have current licenses, but I have all the knowledge that my bachelor’s and master’s degrees have given, plus all that I’ve gained through over thirty years of experience and assorted continuing education opportunities.  This means that I have a profound grasp of how learning “works” and particularly about how to help children or adults who are struggling with learning specific skills.

Here is just a short sampling of what I have done over the years:

Bachelor’s Degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio in Elementary Education and Mild Cognitive Impairment, 1980

Master’s Degree from Indiana State University in South Bend, IN in moderate, severe, and profound cognitive disabilities and learning disabilities, 1986

Continuing Education workshops and classes have included Introduction to Wilson System Reading Program, Teaching Students with Brain Injury, Literacy and Workforce Development, and much more.

Work history includes 1 year of substitute teaching for Elkhart Community Schools, 6 years of classroom teaching (moderate cognitive disabilities) for Elkhart Community Schools, 30 years of private tutoring experience, 10 years of leading literacy development classes for moderate and severely developmentally disabled adults at the local community mental health facility, 20 years as a regional workshop facilitator for events for parents, child care providers, and paraprofessionals in the areas of education and parenting, 25 years as a freelance writer, and 30 years of developing my own products, books, workbooks, and curricula used by hundreds of clients.

I maintain professional membership in the National Tutoring Association, and am active at Hope United Methodist Church in Edwardsburg, where I lead small group studies, have written study materials and curricula, and have assisted with the Christian education program.  I’m also active with the local Girl Scouts as a training facilitator, Community leader, and camp director.

In short, I have the training, skills, and experience to help you meet your educational goals.  I do hope you will contact me so we can discuss your situation.  Please email me at [email protected].
