Online tutoring is high-tech assistance at its finest. It allows me to take everything that is right about the internet, combine it with my unique skills and expertise, and bring all the tools to bear on your student’s areas of academic concern.
How Does It Work?
Online tutoring is a flexible way to meet with me, the teacher, in real time using digital tools. Using virtual meeting software, Skype, or other tools that work for both your student and myself, we will set up appointments to work on areas, skills, or subjects of concern. Most students enjoy a video component, so we can use webcams or Facetime-type systems to see and hear one another. In addition, I have access to many types of digital tools, including screen sharing, file sharing, Google docs, videos, virtual white boards, online games, and much more. We will design lessons together that are both effective and enjoyable. We’ll choose an agreeable schedule (date and time), then meet in cyberspace to meet your student’s educational needs.
What Subjects Can Be Learned in This Way?
I can teach nearly anything online that I can do in person. I specialize in helping students of all ages develop basic reading, writing and math skills, but I can also assist with upper elementary and middle school subjects, study skills, test prep, and a little bit of Algebra I and Geometry I.
What Are the Advantages of Online Tutoring?
Perhaps the most important advantage is the flexible nature for scheduling and transportation. Online tutoring sessions allow me to work with students nearly anywhere in the world, all in the comfort of our own homes. I can also adjust lessons quickly and easily to meet the students’ immediate needs, and have the flexibility to design activities that will be the most efficient and enjoyable.
How Can I Know if Online Tutoring is Right for Me and My Student?
That’s easy! I offer a free “sample session” to all of my new clients to make sure all of the technology works well on your end. It is highly recommended that an adult be present for this process if the student is under age 18. After we get everything working well, I will play a game or lead an exercise that will give the student a taste of how lessons will be conducted.
How Many Sessions Will We Need to Do?
Just like with in-person tutoring, the number of sessions and the duration of tutoring are completely up to the student and family. Typically, we set goals together, and when we’ve met those goals, we can set new ones if warranted, or “graduate” from tutoring. I do ask that students and families pay in advance for digital services. We can set up an exact payment and tutoring schedule at our initial meeting, after you have completed the Registration Form (Click HERE for the form). I accept payment via Paypal for digital services.
